Time, Presence & Becoming

This month, many of my clients, both young and old, have commented on how quickly time

seems to be passing. The weeks roll into months, the months into seasons, and before we

know it, another year is unfolding.

Perhaps it is the pace of modern life. Perhaps it is the endless demands, distractions, and

responsibilities that fill our days. Whatever the reason, many of us are left wondering where

the time has gone.

Alongside these reflections on time, May often brings questions about identity. Who am I

becoming? What feels aligned with the person I am today? What no longer fits?

As we grow and develop greater self-awareness, it is natural to outgrow old roles, old

expectations, and old ways of relating to ourselves and others. We may find ourselves

setting healthier boundaries, speaking more honestly, or trusting our own judgement rather

than seeking approval from those around us.

Growth is rarely comfortable. It often asks us to let go of what is familiar before we feel

certain about what comes next. Sometimes these shifts also change the relationships around

us. As we grow, some connections deepen while others naturally fall away. New people may

enter our lives as others leave. Even when these changes are necessary and healthy, they

can still be painful. Grief is often part of growth. Letting go of who we were, or of

relationships that once felt important, can bring sadness alongside relief, uncertainty

alongside hope.

One theme that has stood out to me this month is the importance of pausing.

Not stopping forever. Not having all the answers.

Simply pausing.

Pausing long enough to notice the morning light. To feel the warmth of a cup of tea in your

hands. To listen to the rain. To take a breath before moving on to the next task. To be fully

present with someone you care about.

These moments may seem insignificant, yet they are often where life is actually happening.

We cannot slow the passage of time, but we can slow ourselves down enough to experience

it.

As May comes to a close, perhaps take a moment to reflect:

• What feels aligned for me right now?

• Where am I growing beyond old expectations?

• What might I need to let go of?

• Which relationships are supporting my growth, and which may no longer fit?

• What am I rushing past that deserves my attention?

• How can I create a little more space for pause in my life?

There is no need to have everything figured out.

Life unfolds one day at a time. Identity unfolds one experience at a time. And sometimes the

most meaningful thing we can do is pause long enough to notice where we are before

moving forward again.

There is space for you here.
